Facebook’s Messenger app to add multiple account support and SMS integration

Facebook Messenger is reportedly experimenting with SMS integration within their Messenger app itself. For now, they’ve launched support for multiple accounts.

Android Police managed to get the inside scoop on Messenger’s attempts at SMS integration. They report that an SMS conversation in Messenger will be coloured purple, as opposed to the default blue for regular Messages. Apparently, SMS and Messenger conversations with the same person will not be integrated to avoid confusion (unlike Hangouts’ take on SMS integration). Again, these features are still experimental and are subject to change.

While multiple sources claim that support for multiple accounts is now available in Messenger, it hasn’t rolled out to everyone. We ourselves have been unable to find the option on our devices, but if you’re one of the lucky few with access, do let us know. You should be able to enable that feature under account settings in the settings menu.

A material design is also reported to be in the works, understandable considering that these features are first rolling out to Android devices.
