The HTC Vive Consumer Edition will initially be available for buy in as many as 24 countries. These include the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Ireland, Sweden, Taiwan, China, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Sadly, India does not figure in the list for now.

Developed in collaboration with Valve , the Vive will ship with one head-mounted VR headset, a pair of Vive base stations along with a couple of wireless controllers, a Vive Link Box (to collect data and send it to the PC) and Vive ear buds. For a limited period, buyers will also get two free VR games: Job Simulator: The 2050 Archives and Fantastic Corporation along with the bundle.

According to HTC, the minimum PC spec for running the Vive is either an Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 or an AMD Radeon R9 290 graphics card (coupled with 4GB of RAM or more).

The Vive VR headset connects to a PC through a cable at the back, and also offers a headphone jack for audio out. Speaking of which, HTC claims the Vive Consumer Edition is a notable improvement over the outgoing Pre Edition in a number of ways. It comes with head-strap refinement, improved ergonomics (which should entail in greater comfort) along with a built-in microphone.

Additionally, the Vive Consumer Edition will include integrated phone services, giving users the ability to make and receive phone calls, check text and access calendar reminders, without removing the headset.

The HTC Vive will take on the Oculus Rift when it enters the market in early April this year. While initial rumours suggested a $1,000 plus price tag for the Vive, potential buyers would breathe a sigh of relief now that the final price is out. Having said that, the Vive still costs $200 more than the Oculus Rift.
